Hijama on Sunnah Dates: What You Should Know

Many of our clients ask about having hijama on the 17th, 19th and 21st of the Islamic lunar month — the dates traditionally associated with cupping. If you’ve heard about “Sunnah dates” and wondered what they mean or how to plan around them, this guide explains the tradition, how to check the dates, and how to book your session at Hijamah Center Karachi in Dastagir. These are the questions we hear most often, answered plainly, along with practical booking advice — since these dates are among our busiest days each month.

The 17th, 19th & 21st Tradition

Among Muslims who practise hijama, there is a well-known tradition of having cupping done on the 17th, 19th and 21st days of the lunar month. These dates are mentioned in narrations concerning cupping, and many people choose them out of religious devotion and love for the Sunnah. Whether it’s your first session or part of a routine, having hijama on these dates carries special meaning for many of our clients in Karachi.

The tradition is widely observed across the Muslim world, and in Karachi many clinics see extra demand on these dates. If you’re new to hijama, there’s no requirement to start on a Sunnah date — but many clients find it a meaningful way to begin. The narrations are well known enough that most of our regular clients don’t need reminding — they message us as soon as the new Hijri month begins to ask when the 17th falls.

Why These Days Are Recommended

People choose the Sunnah dates for reasons of faith and tradition rather than medical claims — it’s about following a practice beloved in Islamic tradition. That distinction matters to us: we present hijama as a traditional, complementary practice and make no cure claims about any particular date. If observing the Sunnah dates is meaningful to you, we’re happy to help you plan for them; if another day suits you better, that’s perfectly fine too.

Some clients also appreciate the rhythm these dates give: three set opportunities each lunar month make it easy to build hijama into a routine, rather than putting it off indefinitely. We’ve found that clients who book on Sunnah dates often become our most loyal regulars, returning month after month.

Checking the Lunar Calendar

Because the Islamic calendar is lunar, the 17th, 19th and 21st fall on different Gregorian dates each month — roughly ten to eleven days earlier each solar year. The exact dates depend on the local moon sighting, so we recommend confirming with your local mosque announcements or a reliable Hijri calendar for Karachi before finalising your plans. A quick check a few days ahead avoids confusion, especially since the lunar date changes at sunset.

If you’re unsure, message us a few days before the expected date and we’ll help you confirm. We keep an eye on the local Hijri calendar ourselves, since so many of our bookings cluster around these days.

Booking on Sunnah Dates

The Sunnah dates are popular, so it’s wise to book your slot a few days in advance — message us on WhatsApp at +92 335 1214919 and we’ll confirm availability. Evening slots between 2:00 PM and 9:00 PM tend to fill fastest on Sunnah dates, so earlier in the day is usually easier to book. One practical note: our clinic is closed on Fridays, so if a Sunnah date falls on a Friday, we won’t be open that day. Wednesday and Sunday sessions around the date usually work well instead — just message us and we’ll help you plan the nearest suitable day.

If you can’t get a slot on the exact date, don’t worry — the days immediately before and after are also popular choices, and any day you can come is a good day for hijama. Learn more on our Sunnah dates page, and see our FAQs for anything else. If it’s your first visit, our aftercare guide is also worth a read.
